[ Datadog ] Datadog support discontinued due to CentOS/RHEL 6 service discontinuation

Print

CentOS 6 reached end-of-life on November 30, 2020. Maintenance support for RHEL 6 also ended on November 30, 2022, and it is now in the final phase of "Extended Life Cycle Support" (RHEL Support Policy).

As a result, Datadog will no longer release new versions of the Datadog Agent supporting CentOS/RHEL 6 starting from the February 2024 release of Datadog Agent 7.51.1.

To continue receiving bug fixes, security patches, and feature enhancements, it is recommended to upgrade the host to CentOS/RHEL 7 or later.

Changes

Datadog will no longer release new versions of the Datadog Agent supporting CentOS/RHEL 6. This decision follows the end-of-life of CentOS/RHEL 6 on November 30, 2020.

CentOS/RHEL 6 and its derivatives (such as Oracle Linux 6 and Scientific Linux 6) will no longer be supported starting from the February 2024 release of Datadog Agent 7.51.1.

Impact

If your host is running CentOS/RHEL 6, you will no longer receive bug fixes, security updates, or feature enhancements. However, Datadog Agent versions released before February 2024 (version 7.51.1 or earlier) can still be installed and run on CentOS/RHEL 6 environments.

How to Identify Affected Hosts

Go to the Fleet Automation platform and filter by CentOS/RHEL 6 operating system versions.

Alternatively, use the API Get all Hosts for your organization to retrieve the host list and check within the list.

When using the API, set include_hosts_metadata to true and look for kernel_release values of 2.6.32****.

Required Actions

While the current version of the agent can still run on the host, it is strongly recommended to migrate all affected hosts to CentOS/RHEL 7 or later to continue receiving the best support experience, security updates, and feature enhancements from the Datadog Agent.

If upgrading to CentOS/RHEL 7 is not possible, pin the agent version to 6/7.51.1 or earlier. Attempting to upgrade the Datadog Agent to version 6/7.52 or later on CentOS/RHEL 6 may cause installation issues.
